Privacy policy

Effective August 16, 2026

What we collect

  • Your check answers: the five questions (notice code, who is handling your case, balance range, tax years and filing status, situation flags). No signup is needed to use the check.
  • Contact details: your name, email, and phone, collected when you book a call or ask for your summary in writing.
  • Letters you share: if you send a copy of an IRS notice, it goes into your case file for your Enrolled Agent.
  • Usage data: standard analytics about how the site is used (pages, clicks, device type), collected through PostHog. We honor the browser Do Not Track signal.

What we never touch

Your Social Security number never passes through or rests on Fairmark’s servers. When your case needs the IRS authorization form, you complete it inside a dedicated, secured e-signature platform; the completed form goes to your licensed Enrolled Agent. We receive only a reference that it was completed.

Your card number never touches us either. Payments run through Stripe; we store only Stripe’s reference tokens.

What we do with your data

  • Run your check and show your results.
  • Prepare and administer your case, if you start one.
  • Send transactional email about your case: confirmations, receipts, and case updates. We do not send marketing sequences, and we never cold-call.
  • Measure and improve the site.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. Your case information goes to exactly one outside professional: the licensed Enrolled Agent handling your case, and only after you have started one.

Who processes data for us

Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), PostHog (analytics), and, when your case reaches the authorization step, our e-signature provider. Each receives only what its job requires.

Retention and deletion

Check answers with no case attached are kept for operational analysis and deleted on request. Case records are kept as long as tax-practice record rules require. To ask for a copy of your data or its deletion, reply to any email we have sent you, or write to privacy@fairmark.us.

Prior services

Fairmark previously operated a property-tax appeal service. Customers of that service retain the privacy terms they signed up under; its records are kept separately.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date above changes with it, and active customers are told by email.
